Coming together now

Well, the new server is finally coming together. I purchased some new RAM modules but they appear to bad so I’ll have to return those and get some new ones.

I’ve got my blogger running, database server, forum software, and a photo gallery. Soon I’ll make the cutover so I don’t have pay my insane hosting bill.

The next steps will include changing this default frontpage with uh… something I haven’t thought of a design yet, but I’m sure I’ll get something over the weekend.

Back to the grind

It’s been nearly a month since I’ve last worked because of the birth of my son and today is the day I will return. Oh boy (no pun intended… ok maybe a little), I actually have to work for a living?!

I’m typing this with one hand while feeding my boy ( yeah, yeah, I fed my daughter the same way) and my wife telling me I need to go to bed. It is getting late… I leave for work in 6 hours and I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep in the last 3+ weeks. But you know, I don’t really care about sleep anymore. I enjoy feeding my son in the wee hours of morning or just resting on the couch watching him sleep like the baby he is.

When my daughter was born I was so busy working on starting the career I have today that I didn’t stop and take time to enjoy her at her most innocent age. I’m going to really make an effort to witness my son’s first hand.

Ah yes, the grind part. You know, it really isn’t all the bad. Working is something we all do, either be it for ourselves, for someone else, or like my wife, for the children. We all have some form of a job and normally we don’t like it too much. But today will be different, I’m really going to try and remember that work is just that, work, and in 8 hours I get to come home to feed my son.

If you want free, do it yourself…

The free ride is over… wtf am I talking about?

We all know the free internet is coming to an end, it’s been happening for 2 years now… tell us something we don’t know.

I’m sick of paying for web hosting, broadband internet and dial up just so I can feel connected to the world. Throw in dotMac cause I’m loyal to my kind, a few domains because I think they’re cute and I’m paying over $2000 a year for the right to use the internet. OMG… I’m f’n crazy!

So, today, it’s going to stop. I’ve installed a new web server on my favorite platform, free from M$ only junk like ASP, for $0 a month, down from $57.95. I’ll be moving to a different provider for broadband which will not only increase my upstream bandwidth but also throw in unlimited dial up access when I’m traveling. Now, the cost is more than what I pay today, however, I’ll be able to dump my existing dial up account at $19.95 and still save $5 a month, bonus!

This Movable Type stuff is rather handy… hmm something that still is free on the internet, damn, that’s awesome!
