Sony DSC-P72 impressions
March 31st, 2003
Was finally able to convince my wife that it was time for us to update our daily use digital camera. Since Aiden was born we’ve been using our low grade, always worked, 1.3 mega pixel Olympus D-340R. It works, it takes digital photos, they’re just not large or of extreme high quality.
Being the ultimate geek that I am, I’ve wanted a new camera for awhile now. Many a new models have come and gone from the market, but now I finally have a very new camera, the Sony DSC-P72.
The main reason for this purchase instead of the previously mentioned Powershot S45 was the lack of confusing buttons and excessive options that aren’t needed in a daily point-n-shoot. The P72 has 3.2 mega pixels, takes short movies with audio, is compact and fairly lightweight, has enough manual features to satisfy the geek, yet easy enough for straight point-n-shoot.
So far I’m very impressed with the quality of the pictures, a night and day comparison with our old camera. Over time I will start using all the “hidden” manual features that don’t interest my wife and report back, but from what I see it was $300 well spent.
