Meet The Press

“Winning Eleven 6 International”:http://www.snapturtle.com/archives/000083.php was “reviewed”:http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/04/22/DD85143.DTL in the San Francisco Chronicle today. Nice to see a niche game get some “main stream” press for a change.

Small World

SMS was invented for a reason, but I don’t think the guy in the top right corner has ever heard of it. Frankly, I think he forgot his manners too. Really chops my hide when some snob is practically yelling into his phone on the ferry. Even more so when the guy is yacking about the company I work for, blasting the names of senior officers into the air waves. He sounded like he was trying to sell something to my employer and they weren’t buying. Instead he just sold himself to my blog.

Welcome to my blog idiot.

Wanna Buy A Coaster?

Collecting things has always been something I’ve liked to do. I collected stamps as a boy, then moved on to baseball cards and comics. Now I find myself collecting video games and Macintosh computers. One thing I haven’t even thought of collecting was AOL CDs. Yes, that’s right, those pesky little silver platters flooding your mailbox I use for coasters or frisbees, many are collecting them for either the “trash heap”:http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/04/21/BA182210.DTL or for “selling on eBay”:http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,45585,00.html.

I’d much rather just trash em. Hmm, maybe someone wants to buy the CDs I get in the mail? It’ll help me fund more Japanese game imports so my wife doesn’t get upset. MTO’s fine cell-shaded “GT Cube”:http://www.the-magicbox.com/game032503c.htm racing game (Japanese Gamecube only) ships April 25th, hurry up and send the money now, I’m sure I can find some AOL discs around here.

The Shadow Of A Tree

During an afternoon photo taking session I happened upon a lone tree that was casting a very interesting shadow of itself. The tree actually wasn’t very pretty, mostly bear but the shadow wouldn’t tell that part of the story.

Playoff Time Again

The “NBA”:http://www.nba.com/ playoffs started today. In fact, the “Sacramento Kings”:http://www.nba.com/kings/ are currently playing the Utah Jazz. Normally this time of year I’d be really excited about the playoffs, watching every moment of the Kings as they begin their assault for the elusive NBA Championship.

But, things are different this year. With the recent birth of my son “Aiden”:http://www.snapturtle.com/gallery/aiden01, I haven’t been following the NBA or sports in general very closely at all. During the game tonight I’ve read the latest issue of “The Official Xbox Magazine”:http://www.officialxboxmagazine.com/ and “Wired”:http://www.wired.com/, plus I’ve played “Mr. Driller Ace”:http://www.horisusumu.com/ on Game Boy Advance SP. I guess I’m just not into the whole sports thing as much as I once was. Sure, I enjoy watching sports when available normally, but since the birth of Aiden, sports has taken a back seat. I’d rather spend time with my family, play video games for stress relief, or blog with my free time. Once I do those things, either the games are over for the night or I’m too tired to watch them.

Oh well, good luck to the “Kings”:http://www.nba.com/kings/, hopefully they’ll get to taste the sweet victory of their labor.

The Art Of J-Walking

You’ve done it. I’ve done it. Everybody does it. J-Walking is a classic example of “busy” people in such a hurry that they’d risk their life just to cross the street 15 seconds faster. Or, maybe someone j-walks because everyone else is so why not them. Personally I don’t care if you j-walk or not but I can’t recommend it due to completely insane drivers that would rather plow you over to park in the red zone to get their Starbucks fix then let you j-walk.

San Francisco has recently been converting their old crossing signs to new ones that include a counter that counts down from 12 seconds to when the actual light will turn red. I like it. I now know that when the timer is at 2 seconds that I’d better stay on the safe side. But of course, some people think it means “Hey, idiot, you’ve got 2 seconds to cross, get moving!”. So, they cross. Sometimes running, other times walking as if there were no timer and that car that is fast approaching is going to care about them and stop.

Then there’s the crossing on a complete red because there aren’t any cars in the area at that very moment. You know the type, first they edge out of the curb to stand in the crosswalk and annoy those drivers who’d like to turn right. Then, after glancing down the street looking for oncoming traffic, which still has a green light, they cross. What fascinates me about these types is if a car comes barreling through the intersection with the right of way, the j-walker expects the car to yield. Usually there are words exchanged, horns honked, or the universal language symbol used.

So, if you ever encounter a j-walker out and about, just sit back and enjoy. There is usually something humorous each time. Oh, and if you are a j-walker, don’t stop on my account, I’m sure not.

Anyone Seen My Wallet?

Those who know me well enough, know that I love to talk about Japan. Mostly I like to talk about the technology in Japan like “cell phones”:http://www.wirelesswatchjapan.com/, “electronics”:http://www.showroom.sony.co.jp/, or “Shinkansen”:http://www.japanrail.com/ (bullet trains) because those in the states have lame cell phones, three seasons removed technology and “B.A.R.T.”:http://www.bart.gov/index.asp. However, the main topic I always like to talk about (although most times I think it falls on deaf ears) is “video games”:http://www.nintendo.co.jp. Yes, I admit it, I’m a huge video game geek with a rabid love for all games Japanese. I dream about walking into a huge Japanese video game store and plunking down 239,340 •en (roughly $2000 US) on a massive collection of games.

Where would one find such a place? How about “Aso Bit City”:http://www.laox.jp/laox/store.jsp?store_id=280 where all the geeks go! What makes this all worse is people like “Christopher Kobayashi”:http://radio.weblogs.com/0118995/ take “awesome pictures of inside Aso Bit City”:http://radio.weblogs.com/0118995/categories/gaming/2003/04/11.html#a62 that make me drool and foam with envy.

Someday… someday…

Ivy Drops Wallpaper

I’ve always been a fan of wallpaper for my desktop, usually changing it every week or so. Lately I’ve been playing around with a lot of my abstract photos and found that they make some nice desktop backgrounds. So, I’ve added the first one here to snapturtle, certainly not the last however. This was actually a photo of an ivy leaf taken with a Sony DSC-P72 after a recent rain. I used the Photoshop dust and scratches filter to apply the blurred hand drawn look. Let me know how you like it!

Screw You

I am happy. Right now. I feel like skipping, running, jumping. I want to have fun. I want to entertain you. Is this a crime? Am I not allowed to be happy? When I got on the ferry today, skipping along, a woman sitting near my usual spot (why do I always sit in the same place) got up, gave me a dirty look and moved seats.

I’m not so happy anymore.
