Idiots And Baseballs

Remember these “two idiots”:http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/05/28/SP157248.DTL? These are the two guys who “caught”… er… fought over Barry Bond’s 73rd home run ball. There isn’t much for me to say that isn’t said in the aforementioned article, however, I will say this… I hope these two losers get *NADA* at the ball’s auction because these two a-holes don’t deserve jack squat.

What would I do if I caught Bond’s 73rd home run ball? I’d trade it back to him or give it to the Hall Of Fame. Yeah, yeah, I say that now, not even being close to ever catching a ball worth that much, but really, I would. Look what these two idiots got out of it, certainly not what I’m looking for.

The Response

“Oh, they haven’t come and fixed the linoleum in the bathroom yet? Gee, that was weeks ago…” No shit sherlock, hence why YOU received a letter from the health department last week. So, what’s your response to the letter? “We just got approval from the management to install a new sliding glass door, new windows, and new carpeting.” Hmm… I wonder why… What a bunch of conartists. I’d love to actually *see* all of these great “new” things we’re suppose to be getting. Ha ha.

To top it all off, I’ve been totally sick since Friday night and I’m frankly damn tired of it. Being sick sucks, having to work while sick sucks even more. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get better once my mold problem goes away. Does the health department take rain checks on repair work? Oh wait… I “already mentioned”:http://www.snapturtle.com/archives/000281.php that they do. *Sigh*.

Snowbound

While looking through my webism (don’t ask) archives I came across an old favorite. Long ago, in a town far away, I played Starcraft all day. :) At some point, I made my first and only map using the included editor. “Snowbound”:http://www.snapturtle.com/xtra/snowbound/ was designed because I wanted more snowy slopes in my Starcraft life. I think I actually spent more time on the read me file than I did on the actual map. Oh well, ’tis the life of a web developer.

Anyway, if you’re at all interested in Starcraft maps, give “Snowbound”:http://www.snapturtle.com/xtra/snowbound/ a go… er… a laugh. :)

Mold And Me

The health department came out yesterday and did an inspection of our apartment. Of course, they wrote a “glowing” review in our favor, even spotting mold in places we didn’t know it existed. Plus, when checking under the sink for leaky pipes, the inspector hit is head on two 3+ inch bolts that are down there for no real reason. He wrote those up on the report as well. :)
I still haven’t heard anything back from the landlord about the demand letter I sent. I’m wondering what’s going to happen now that the health department has faxed them their report with pictures. They’ll only give them 30 days but of course, just like the IRS, the health department accepts requests for extensions. *Ugh*.

In the meantime, we’re trying to find places to live as my allergies are really starting to annoy me again and I’m blaming it all on the f-in *mold*.

Teeth Are Hard To Come By

Autumn lost *two* teeth tonight. I don’t remember losing two on the same night when I was growing up. The first came out around 6:00pm and just a few minutes later, after some tugging by Autumn, she shouted gleefully, “I lost my 5th tooth!”.

Dad isn’t one for the gross stuff so Mommy was kind enough to take care of the fun part. As for Autumn, she couldn’t be more happier being toothless in the front. :)

Pokemon Strategy Guides

It appears that I’m getting hits to snapturtle because on the my ongoing dialog about Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Some of these hits seem to stem from the need for strategy guides to the game. Well, here you go visitors:

“GameFAQs Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire”:http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/game/32745.html section always the best place to look for interesting FAQs and walkthroughs for Pokemon R/S.

“Fourhman Pokemon Sapphire Diary”:http://www.fourhman.com/sapphire.shtml is a very interesting diary based guide with lots of user comments & feedback.

“Pokemon Elite 2000″:http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/ has lots of good information not only on R/S but also on everything related to Pokemon.

Let’s Roll!

Aiden is on the move! It’s amazing, but in only four short months, Aiden decided he no longer wanted to lay helplessly on his back. Now he’s taken to the floor by rolling over onto his tummy and using his knees to move about. Sure, he isn’t quite crawling yet but at this rate it won’t be long before he is.

(Aiden’s poor knees are all red)

The biggest problem with a mobile child is of course “things”. Anything that’s on the floor is now fair game so the clamp down on leaving junk around on the house has started. Autumn is so use to just leaving little piles of “stuff” on the floor that she’ll now have to take a little more care and pick that “stuff” up.

Daddy is also going to need to make sure all his little things like Game Boy Advance carts and GameCube memory cards aren’t strewn across the living room floor. I’m sure Aiden can’t wait to play with Daddy’s toys, but he’s not ready just yet. :)

Argh! Nintendo, You Suck!

Yes, Nintendo sucks. At least they do right now. What in the hell are they thinking over there anyway? Releasing a f-ing “demo disc”:http://cube.ign.com/articles/403/403854p1.html to only be sold *IF* you buy a GameCube? What in the hell is that? If I’m not able to get my hands on one of these demo discs I’m going to be very pissed off. And no, I’m not going to buy another damn GameCube… at least not this week. Grrrrr.

Pokemon + Wife = Like Raising Kids?

I thought I had a problem. I thought I was the one who was hopelessly addicted to Pokemon, playing an hour a day, sometimes two if I got really lucky or bored. Enter my wife.

My wife has a wonderful job. She is the uber provider and care giver for our wonderful children, Aiden and Autumn. She works tirelessly to care for them at their beckon call *AND* she does the same for me (yeah I know, I’m a total jack-ass).

But much to my amazement she’s taken a very deep and almost frighteningly similar approach to her newest love, Pokemon. Yes, she is actually playing the game and yes, she plays WAY more than I do. Consider it a benefit of her job (probably the only complete escapism one too).

Frankly I think it’s great. I don’t have a problem with her playing, it’s fun to “talk” (sic) Pokemon and trade with her (haha, we’ve lost our minds) after the children have gone to bed. At first she was very protective of her Pokemon and didn’t want to trade. But once she realized that I had “new” Pokemon and that Pokemon gotten in trades are better, she was all for it. Honey, remember, they’re just Pokemon and we can always trade back. ;)
So, when its all said and done, my wife is taking the very core of her existence, the love she has for her family and applying that to her Pokemon.

Did I cause all of this? Perhaps :)

Blogging Can Be Dangerous

I’ve had many a web sites in my day, from the really lame ones to some profitable ones. But one that still strikes fear in my mind is the one where I had a “rant” section, pre-blogging days.

The rant section was mainly for, uhm, ranting; usually about whatever or whomever. In one case I had a nice rant about a few “whomever’s” working at my current job at the time (just to be clear, NOT where I work now, got it?). The details of the rant don’t matter anymore, but mainly I was having some work related issues with a few employees of the company ( I was a “contractor” ) and I felt empowered to speak about them on my web site. I vaguely remember telling one of these people about said web site and not thinking at all I went ahead and posted the rant. Of course, I wasn’t dumb enough to post information such as names or companies. Either way, I got shafted.

A few days later I get called into a conference room with one of the employee’s, indirectly mentioned in the rant only by their associated actions, and was told that they’d read the rant on my web site. They also informed me that I would need to remove the rant if I intended on working there anymore. This person was not a manager, but being that they were an employee and I a lowly contractor, I felt I couldn’t win and removed the rant.

I bring this up now, although many years have passed, because I was directed to another blogger who shared a similar experience but with a much more drastic outcome. ( Thanks Naaman)

I’m sure many other bloggers have shared similar experiences to mine or god forbid, what Dooce went through. But, as much as I’d like to think sometimes that I’m just blogging to myself or even to a very select few individuals, every time I write I’m speaking to the whole world.

Sure, there are days were work isn’t going so well and “ranting” about it may seem like a good way to vent. Don’t do it. I’ve made it a point with my latest entry into the web world not to discuss my current work. I may say, “Hey, work is awesome right now!” or “Boy, what a great weekend, sucks having to go back to work on Monday”, but I will censor myself from any negative diatribes about work.

As for my comments about what happened to Dooce, I think it’s very unfortunate what happened, could be seen as illegal by the company, but I’m no lawyer.
