Pokemon + Wife = Like Raising Kids?

May 20th, 2003

I thought I had a problem. I thought I was the one who was hopelessly addicted to Pokemon, playing an hour a day, sometimes two if I got really lucky or bored. Enter my wife.

My wife has a wonderful job. She is the uber provider and care giver for our wonderful children, Aiden and Autumn. She works tirelessly to care for them at their beckon call *AND* she does the same for me (yeah I know, I’m a total jack-ass).

But much to my amazement she’s taken a very deep and almost frighteningly similar approach to her newest love, Pokemon. Yes, she is actually playing the game and yes, she plays WAY more than I do. Consider it a benefit of her job (probably the only complete escapism one too).

Frankly I think it’s great. I don’t have a problem with her playing, it’s fun to “talk” (sic) Pokemon and trade with her (haha, we’ve lost our minds) after the children have gone to bed. At first she was very protective of her Pokemon and didn’t want to trade. But once she realized that I had “new” Pokemon and that Pokemon gotten in trades are better, she was all for it. Honey, remember, they’re just Pokemon and we can always trade back. ;)
So, when its all said and done, my wife is taking the very core of her existence, the love she has for her family and applying that to her Pokemon.

Did I cause all of this? Perhaps :)
