Apple released a new version of their famed 12″ Powerbook last week. I know, this is a little late but I’ve been wrapped up in “Final Fantasy XI”:http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml and now “World of Warcraft”:http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ so as you can see, I’m quite the busy MMO player.
Back to the 12″… I’d love to upgrade my existing model, aka Rev. B, with this new Rev. C model. Just the 64MB of video memory alone would be awesome (boosting WoW’s graphics) plus add in the new 1.33Ghz processor with 167mhz bus, larger capacity hard drives and built-in Airport Extreme, this new model will surely make for some serious portable power at just under $1600.
Oh well, not today… now I’ll just have to lust after yet another Apple laptop until I can afford to upgrade, again.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. Well, take a look at the screenshot below of “World of Warcraft”:http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ and you’ll know what I’m thinking right now.
Yes folks, I’m in the beta! I’m only posting this right now because the world server is down and I can’t play
The game is super fun although I’ve only played a few hours so I really can’t compared it to Final Fantasy XI quite yet. Frankly, since WoW really is just a beta test, I’m more focused on making sure WoW is better than FFXI before it’s released at retail.
With both FFXI and WoW now vying for my gaming dollar at some point one will have to be demoted on my list of current play titles as I surely can’t maintain playing two MMO’s at the same time.

Nokia is trying it’s hand again at the world of handheld gaming with the N-Gage 2. “Leaked photos show”:http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/first_ngage_2_pictures_014911.php that the newest N-Gage still won’t support a built-in camera making the device completely worthless for me. If Nokia really wanted to sell me one of these things they’d at least include the top three features of 1) a non-side talking phone 2) bluetooth support and 3) a damn 640×480 camera.
At least they got the multimedia and game cart ports right this time. No more removing the battery to play another game. Still, Nokia isn’t going to sell enough of these things to make a dent in Nintendo’s strangehold of portable gaming.

In the world of Vana’diel the Moogles’ are celebrating Easter a little early this year. Located at each main gate in the home ports of Bastok, San d’Oria, and Windurst, each resident Moogle will give you a special letter initial egg as part of the “Egg Hunt Egg-stravaganza”:http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/polnews/news1727.shtml.
As you can see this has created quite the stir among the local residents. At any one time there are several mobs of travellers attempting to get new eggs from the Moogle or sell their eggtras to other collectors.
What do you with the eggs one might ask. As with every egg hunt, you must collect enough initial eggs in order to trade back with the Moogle to get a special item or egg. The special items vary depending on luck and how many eggs you trade at one time. The Moogle will only give you one initial egg per game day, although you can get more eggs from other players or by trading in 12 bird eggs to the Moogle.
These are the special items I’ve heard of or seen so far:
* Extra Initial Egg (Trade in “12 bird eggs”:http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=1256. Can be done once per game day.)
* Chocobo Tickets (Random - Trade in the first three initials of your player name)
* Stat Boosting Candy/Drop (Random - Trade in the first three initials of your player name. Stat gain is temporary)
* “Happy Egg”:http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=4705 (Trade in 8 alphabetic eggs starting with your player name first initial. Stat gain is permanent when equipped. HP +1% VIT +1)
* “Lucky Egg”:http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=3002 (Trade in 7/8 initial eggs of the same letter. Stat gain is permanent when equipped. MP +1% VIT +1)
I think it’s very cool of “Square-Enix”:http://www.squaresoft.com/ to take the time and implement something like this into the game to keep it fresh and exciting. Just another reason why I enjoy this game so much, it’s ever evolving.
But alas, as with any time based event this one ends on April 13th, 2004 at 0:00 (PDT). Better get those eggs and get cracking, err, no… that would be a bad idea.

“See”:http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,62910,00.html, even the “main stream” magazines have picked up on the craze that is Final Fantasy XI. Wired News is currently running an “article about FFXI”:http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,62910,00.html and found it to be a good read. What’s interesting about this article is that it touches on the perceived differences of the PC and PlayStation 2 versions.
I have experienced the “r u a PS2 n00b?” syndrome first hand. What I find most fascinating about this is people consider themselves a better person than a PS2 n00b solely based on how long they’ve played the game. This is not the first time this type of pathetic behavior has occurred within the realm of online gaming and I can guarantee it won’t be the last.
More oft than not this will occur in almost every online game, regardless of how new or old said title may be. Typical online gamers have an attitude problem where that no one is better than he regardless of their opponents ability in the game. Simple facts like better online rank or being a former beta tester can’t register in the brains of the typical online gamer.
Due to the perceived anonymity of the internet and the fact that most online gamers will never met their opponents in real life, treating someone like complete garbage is first and foremost their pathetic mission in life.
My only advice to those who happen to run across said online gamer, ignore them. The best medicine is to not give them the satisfaction of your attention and most games have an in game ignore function so /ignore away.
