Wayward Ghost

Blizzard “announced late last week”:http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/06/22/news_6101105.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news that once again “Starcraft: Ghost”:http://www.blizzard.com/ghost/ will be delayed. They’ve also announced that the development studio “Nihilistic Software”:http://www.nihilistic.com/ is no longer working on the project.

I’ve been looking forward to this game for quite awhile now having been a huge Starcraft fan ever since I saw my buddy playing it on a PC many moons ago. The agony of waiting for the Mac version almost broke me but alas almost two years after the PC release Starcraft made it out for the Mac and I was hooked.

It’s been almost two years now since Blizzard announced Starcraft: Ghost. The game has suffered one delay already, being pushed back from a 2003 release to 2004. Now it seems that SC: Ghost won’t find it’s way to my GameCube this year at all.

Reading “Penny-Arcade”:http://www.penny-arcade.com this morning had me a little worried about the gameplay that SC: Ghost has evolved into. Sounds like the last playable, which was at this years E3, had turned the game more towards action and less stealth. The biggest draw for me towards Ghost was the fact that you get to play the stealthy character from the RTS series, Ghost. What would be the point of the game if there wasn’t any stealth action?

I feel for the guys and gals of Nihilistic, getting cut from a high profile project is not a good thing at all. Hopefully they can recover as they’re a promising young studio on the up and up. Hopefully Blizzard knows what they’re doing and Ghost will be released in classic Blizzard form. I’m fearful that Ghost may turn into “Warcraft Adventures”:http://www.gamespot.com/features/pcgraveyard/, Blizzard’s axed point and click adventure from years past.
