On Monday morning I will be flying to Kauai, Hawaii for the start of my 6 week sabbatical away from the grind of my daily life. I’m hopeful that after two full weeks on the Garden Isle I can come back with some sense of the real world. Life is not about WoW or work.
I’m grateful that my company still supports and sponsors the sabbatical program which consists of 4 weeks of paid leave after every 5 years of service. One is also able to “pad” the 4 weeks with up to an additional 2 weeks of vacation time. I’d be foolish not to take them up on the offer. Come Friday, May 20th I’m a free man for 6 weeks.
I haven’t really set any goals for myself. I know of several people who have taken their sabbaticals with direct goals to accomplish. I really don’t want to be burdened with having to do something within the 6 week time frame. I need to unwind. I need to unplug. Frankly, I need to chill out for awhile. Reconnect with my wife and two children, walk outside, put my toes in the sand, take pictures of fishes in the ocean, live a simple life.
Something I do hope to do while I’m out and about is blog, moblog, and start podcasting. I’ll let my mood be my guide and not force myself to do anything other than relax as my number one goal.
