GTA: San Andreas dealt the death penalty

July 20th, 2005

The ESRB has revoked the “M” (Mature) rating for GTA: San Andreas and dealt the oh-so not retail friendly “AO” (Adult Only) rating.

Rockstar isn’t happy.

For its part, Take-Two stuck by its contention that the re-rating was “due to unauthorized third party ‘Hot Coffee’ modification.” The publisher reminded the public that “the scenes depicted in the ‘Hot Coffee’ modification are not playable in the retail version of the game unless the user downloads and/or installs unauthorized software that alters the content of the original retail version of the title, representing a violation of Take-Two and Rockstar’s end user license agreement (EULA) and intellectual property rights.”

I’m sorry guys but you got caught with your pants down (hehe) by letting the graphics, the mini-game, and the ability to allow it to be enabled in the game. The so called “hack” is just a very simple, script kiddie type modification to the games main configuration file. Sure, they’ve taken the hack a few steps further but the basic version is still all Rockstar’s original work of “art”. How does Rockstar explain that it can also be enabled in the Playstation 2 version?

Good to see that it was resolved in the only way it could have rightfully been, GTA goes AO and will soon be “flying” off the shelves :)

Interesting. I’m sure they’ll be restickered AO or pulled off the shelves this weekend.

I picked up Katamari a long while back, haven’t played it much since the first few days. Enjoying it I hope? :) Is a fairly interesting and unique game for sure.
