Call me a sceptic, but I don’t really believe that Xbox Live has two-million members as Gamespot is reporting. Two million unique gamertags, sure, I’ll buy that. Hell, I have a few myself from over the years. Why you ask?
When you create a gamertag from a free trial subscription and you cancel that account before the trial expires, the gamertag is locked forever. I know this because I recently used a two month trial back in February that I canceled because I wasn’t playing online anymore. When the Battlefield 2: Modern Combat demo came out I wanted to play it. After calling Microsoft, I was told canceled free trials can’t be reopened and that I’d have to open a new account with a new gamertag. How do you open a new account? Either buy the XBox Live starter kit or find another free trial. Bastards. I paid $20 for a game that included a free trial which was to suppose to have expired.
Let us not forget the gamertag I had when I had my first gen XBox, which was sold after I got bored of Halo and Moto GP. Will I keep my current one? Depends on if I can stay interested in the games. I still need to play Halo 2 but since Bungie is a bunch of sell-outs, I dunno if I can stand playing the half baked sequel. Marathon Pfhor-ever.
So back on track, when they say they’ve reached 2 million “members” or “subscribers” I’d like to know if these are paying subs or just gamertags. Sure seems like a lot of people that I never see on Xbox Live. Prove me wrong inkernet.
