Microsoft announced the XBox 360 pricing and configurations today much to the despair of their loyal fan base (all 3 million of them). M$ decided to pull a very stupid move and fragment the user base by having two configurations, one with a hard drive and one without. Earth to Microsoft, you do realize Sony tried this by shipping a hard drive after market and it crashed and burned. What in the hell do you think is going to happen with this fragmentation? Without a hard drive you won’t be able to download stuff from XBox Live, hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if you couldn’t even log into XBL without a hard drive. You won’t be able to get updates or patches to games, try demos or buy from the XBL marketplace… stupid, stupid move M$. Dumb.
Major Nelson of XBox Live fame is getting a lot of attention today, go give him some more. And for the record, I hadn’t planned on getting a 360 at launch, I’m certainly not going to now. Avoid at all costs people.

I real don’t see it as a dumb move considering that the technology coming pack in the system is why we play the games. Yes I wish they could have did the system with a hard drive for a $299. But I’m pleased with the whole package they put together for $399. Also anybody who thinks the PS3 is going to be affordable think again they keep saying in Japan to save your pennies that the system is going to be very expensive. What I hear around a $499 price starting and that doesn’t come with a hard drive.. If M.S could have made it cheaper it would have. Plus you still could get the core system for $299 which is better than sony is offering.
I am all for not buying the Xbox 360 at launch just to make them lose their big heads. Of course, me by myself will not work. I wish there was a forum that Microsoft could read hearing all of us true gamers talking about this.
