Microsoft’s Xbox 360 DRM Hates You
I was going to write this long post detailing my story with the Xbox 360 and $700 worth of downloadable content I had purchased. In a nutshell my original 360 console got the red ring of death (RRoD) and after acquiring a replacement console all of my downloadable content no longer worked as it did previously. The reason for this was simple: Microsoft’s implementation of DRM on the 360 console does not take into account the consoles extremely high failure rate.
Microsoft is promoting one of the worst consumer unfriendly DRM schemes ever produced. Read the following threads below to get a more detailed view on the issue. Microsoft has yet to fix the issue or publicly acknowledge they are working on a solution.
- Can’t play any XBLA games offline after RRoD (This thread is 141 pages as of this writing)
- Carcassonne expansions fail to load
- Golden Axe won’t registered as paid title (All Sega XBLA titles have this bug)
- Puzzle Quest DRM bug causing it to stay in trial mode
- Truth Serum - Digital Rights Management DRM
